Maradona admits publicly that drug taking almost consumed him

<p>Argentine football legend Diego Maradona arrived in northern Mexico on Saturday to begin his new job as head coach of the second-tier club Dorados of Sinaloa. Maradona is one of the most recognisable names in international football, having led Argentina to the 1986 World Cup championship in Mexico with his infamous “Hand of God” goal. Diego Maradona on Monday insisted he had left his off-the-pitch issues behind. The 57-year-old has publicly struggled in the past with alcohol and drug addiction. But he told reporters he would take his new job seriously, and hadn't come to Mexico for a holiday. His new club is located in Culiacan, considered the heart of the Sinaloa cartel, one of Mexico's most powerful drug smuggling gangs. Some critics have described Maradona's new role as a publicity stunt for the team and a last-ditch effort to resurrect his career. Maradona will reportedly earn 150,000 US dollars a month to coach players who have complained of missed paychecks.</p>

“I felt the pressure’, says Hanuma Vihari after scoring fifty on Test debut

<p>There was a 77-run seventh-wicket partnership between Ravindra Jadeja and Hanuma Vihari, both making their first appearances in the five-match series. Vihari's first Test innings ended on 56. Alastair Cook was unbeaten on 46 in his final Test innings as England reached 114-2 at stumps on day three for a 154-run lead over India in the fifth Test. Cook - England's leading run-scorer who will retire from Test cricket at the end of his 161st match - came through a shaky start to maintain his hopes of a farewell century at the Oval. He scored 71 in England's first innings of 332. It was the struggling Keaton Jennings who gave India a breakthrough, out for 10 after leaving Mohammed Shami's delivery which swung in to find the top of middle stump. England had earlier secured a 40-run first-innings lead by dismissing India for 292. Ravindra Jadeja prevented a far bigger lead with 86 not out after India resumed on 174-6. </p>

She had an on-court meltdown after she lost the match and was penalized for illegal coaching from the sidelines by Patrick Mouratoglou.</p><p>The headlines were supposed to be about Williams' bid for a record-equalling 24th grand slam title and Osaka trying to become Japan's first slam winner, but instead an argument with umpire Carlos Ramos that escalated dominated the match.</p><p>Williams was furious when she was given a coaching violation early in the second set after a hand gesture from her coach Patrick Mouratoglou. She said, 'There's a lot of men out here that have said a lot of things and because they're a man, that doesn't happen to them.'</p><p>The fall-out from this final is likely to rumble on for some time. The long-time coaching partnership between Williams and Mouratoglou is also under strain.</p>

<p>After exceptional performance in Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta, India's ace sprinter Hima Das came back to Guwahati on Friday. A swarm of people came to airport to extend their heartwarming welcome to Das for her achievement. Das, 18, is the only Indian to win at U-20 junior world championships in Helsinki last month. She was the first to raise the bar when she clocked 50.79 seconds, finishing behind an inspired run by gold-medal winner Salwa Naser of Bahrain. Das broke the national record twice in two days — first in the heats (51 seconds), then in the final.</p>

Indian hockey team gets new jersey for World Cup 2018

<p>Indian hockey team's new jersey for the upcoming World Cup 2018 was unveiled in Mumbai on Friday. </p><p>“The new collection aims to arm the Indian Team with that booster dose of confidence as they prepare to bring the cup home. The design also encompasses the spirit of hockey being India's game and is representative of how the National Team's hearts beat for India,” read the media release.The hockey world cup is scheduled to take place in Bhubaneswar (Odisha), starting November 28. </p><p>This is the third time that India will be hosting the tournament after 1982 (Bombay) and 2010 (New Delhi).</p>

‘We’d like to end on a winning note’, says Rahane on the eve of India-England fifth Test

<p>India will face England in their fifth and final Test of the series at The Oval in London on 7th September. </p><p>The hosts claimed the series victory 3-1 with a fourth Test win in Southampton on 2nd September. Former Indian pacer RP Singh retires from cricket

<p>Former India pacer R P Singh on Tuesday announced his retirement from the game. The 32-year-old Singh, a left arm speedster, took to Twitter to announce his decision. “13 years ago today, on 4th September 2005 was the first time I donned the Indian jersey. It was the stepping-stone to what would become the most cherished moments of my life,” Singh wrote on his Twitter account. “Today as I hang my boots and call it a day, I wish to remember and give thanks to each and everyone who made this journey possible,” he said. His international career spanned six years and the pacer played 82 matches across all three formats and picked up over 100 wickets. He was one of the heroes of India's 2007 World T20 triumph and played a major role in India's Test win over Australia at Perth in that year. “For someone born in a small village, I never thought I would be able to say this – I have lived my dream. And for that I have nobody else to thank but you. My fans. For believing in me, for criticizing me and for hailing me but mainly for just being there for me. Thank you!,” Singh signed off.</p>

‘India could have won 3-1 against England’, says head coach Ravi Shastri

<p>India will go into the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval on Friday (7th September) having lost the series 3-1 in a pulsating fourth test in Southampton. </p><p>India is the number one test team in the world but finished up on the wrong side of a close-fought affair in the first test at Edgbaston, before being thrashed by an innings and 159 runs at Lord's. <p>Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal felicitated Asian Games double silver medalist sprinter Dutee Chand on Monday. She was invited along with her family to receive the honour. Dutee won two silver medals in 100m and 200m race. Government also announced a whopping amount of Rs. 3 crore for her achievements. Chand, who had been dropped from the 2014 Commonwealth Games on account of having more than the then prescribed limit, had challenged these rules at the Centre for Arbitration of Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, and won. IAAF's new rules are an outcome of this case — 100m, the category Chand runs in, is exempt.</p>

Japanese swimmer Rikako Ikee crowned Most Valuable Player at Asian Games 2018

<p>Rikako Ikee was announced as the MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the 18th Asian Games at a brief ceremony in Jakarta on Sunday. The 18-year-old Ikee won eight medals, six gold and two silver, in the pool - the most by any athlete in Indonesia. Only North Korean shooter So Gin-man, with seven, collected more golds at a single Asian Games, when India hosted back in 1982. Ikee is also the first female athlete to be named MVP at the Asian Games - which started naming an MVP at the 1998 Bangkok Games. The Japanese teenager also took home a $50,000 US dollar cheque following her brilliant performances. Ikee won all four of her individual events - the 50 and 100-metre freestyle, and the 50 and 100-metre butterfly - and was a member of the gold-winning 4x100 freestyle and medley relays teams. Silver medals were collected in the 4x200 freestyle and the 4x100 mixed medley relays. Ikee became the fourth Japanese athlete to win the MVP and the second in succession following swimmer Kosuke Hagino at the 2014 games in Incheon, South Korea. Swimmer Kosuke Kitajima won the award at the Busan Games in 2002, and athlete Koji Ito back in 1998. </p>

India were runners-up in the tournament, losing 1-3 to world champions Australia on penalties, Pakistan were last.</p>

‘We need to learn to perform under pressure,’ says Virat Kohli after India’s 60 run defeat at Southampton

<p>India lost the fourth test match against England by 60 runs. Indian captain Virat Kohli addressed the media post match. He said, “When we look at the scoreboard in the end, all we really see is a 30-run, or a 50-run margin but as I said, we need to recognise the situation whilst we are in the midst of it, rather than afterwards. We know we played good cricket but we can't keep telling ourselves that competing against the opposition is enough - because crossing the finish line is also an art, which is one we will have to learn. Because, we have the ability, which is why we are close to securing results and we also have belief in that ability. But when we face pressure situations, how we react, is something which we need to work on more. It is something we all are ready to work on. We don't feel for a second that we won't play with intensity in the final test match, because we have enjoyed playing cricket here. We haven't taken playing in England as a burden. We will, once again, in the last test match, do what we have done in all the matches, as this is an opportunity to bounce back and to learn, on how to deal with pressure situations in the future. So, we will try to put things right in the final test match.”</p>
