Feeling happy and proud, Bardhn's daughter said, “We were tracking the game for three days and when we saw him win I was overwhelmed and exciting. We were expecting India will take a medal home.” Pranab Bardhan along with Shibhnath Sarkar bagged a gold medal in men's pair bridge event in the ongoing 18th edition of Asian Games.</p>

Amit, making his debut at the Games, showed immense tactical brilliance, especially in defence to outwit the Uzbek, who has an iconic status in international boxing. <p>Swapna Barman's craving for chocolate could well have cost her gold at the Asian Games. Just before her competition began on Tuesday, she started writhing from tooth pain, forcing her to compete with a medicated tape covering her right jaw. “I had severe pain in my right jaw and couldn't take medication because of the stringent anti-doping rules. In fact, I wasn't even sure I would be able to give off my best with this killing pain. But, somehow, I got the motivation over the last two days to win the Asian Games gold,” said the Jalpaiguri girl after clinching the heptathlon gold. “I told myself that if I have to win, I'll have to forget the pain. I was also nursing a right-knee injury and that too was troubling me,” said Swapna who started as a high jumper in 2013 but later moved to heptathlon.</p>

If they did achieve back-to-back wins they would become only the second team ever to win a Test series after falling 2-0 behind.</p>

‘I always had hope and belief,’ says Sindhu after entering Asian Games singles final

<p>Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu has become the first Indian badminton player to reach a singles final at the Asian Games, after beating Japan's Akane Yamaguchi 21-17, 15-21, 21-10 in the semi-finals. Her success comes days after the 23-year-old was named seventh on the Forbes list of highest-earning female athletes. Sindhu took the first game 21-17 and led 10-6 in the second, but a lack of concentration allowed her Japanese rival to fightback and win the game 15-21. The third was far more comfortable though and the third seed booked her place in the final with a 21-17, 15-21, 21-10 victory. The Indian star later said it was a brief loss of focus that forced a third set but was pleased to make the final. “In the second game when I was leading 10-6, I could have taken two points there. But I took a break, she was leading 11-10, and it was equal at some point of time, but then you know she played very tactically and I made simple errors. But I think, I thought it will be a long match, I was prepared for that. But yeah, leading 10-6 there, if something could've changed there, it could've finished off in straight sets. But I never thought it was over even though I was leading. There were also matches were I was leading and I lost, I was down and I won. So, every point, even though I was down and I was up, I always had hope and belief that I can go high, go high.”</p>

PV Sindhu among world’s top paid female athletes, after Serena Williams

<p>PV Sindhu of India, ranked third in the world, coasted past her round of sixteen opponent, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung of Indonesia, winning in straight sets 21-12, 21-15.</p><p>Understandably Sindhu was pleased at making a solid start to her campaign in the individual women's event.</p><p>The week also brought cheer for Sindhu from outside the courts after the Indian was ranked seventh in the Forbes top-ten list of highest earning female athletes in the world.</p><p>The list was topped by tennis star Serena Williams ($18 million US dollars), with Russia's Maria Sharapova ($9.5 million US dollars) in the fifth spot. Sindhu earned $8.5 million US dollars last year to stay seventh in the list.</p>

Japan’s Rikako Ikee becomes first woman to win six golds in any Asiad game

<p>A week into the Asian Games in Indonesia, the Japanese swimmer Rikako Ikee has emerged as the undisputed golden girl having won a record six gold and two silver medals in the pool. On Friday, the eighteen-year-old Ikee won the 50 m freestyle gold as she edged out China's Liu Xiang to claim her sixth gold of the Games. In the process, Ikee also became the first female athlete in any sport to scoop six gold medals at a single Asiad.</p>
