Abhay Deol: ‘People have tried to smear me, there is a cost to speaking your mind’

<p>An unconventional and individualistic actor, Abhay Deol, has again taken the path less taken in the Hindi film industry as he appears in JL 50, a sci-fi show with a time travel angle. As the show opens on SonyLiv, the actor spoke about his choice of films and how he believes the coming of streaming platforms has democratised the system. The actor says he chose the show as it was 'high concept' and didn't pander to 'the mainstream or a formula'. It is the formula that he wants to eschew. 'It is not that Bollywood is not creative but it is only one kind of creativity,” he says from Los Angeles where he is living now. JL50 is about a plane crash that's discovered more than three decades after the plane took off. The show also stars Pankaj Kapur and Piyush Mishra. He welcomes how people are speaking up now in the industry, hoping it will bring about a change. He says he spoke against the system years ago and he had to pay the price for it. “People tried to smear me,” he says, adding that he paid for it professionally.</p>

Baahubali star Prabhas adopts 1,650 acres of Khazipally Reserve Forest

<p>Actor Prabhas adopted 1,650 acres of Khazipally Reserve Forest near Hyderabad. The Baahubali star handed over a cheque of Rs 2 crore to the officials concerned for its development. The actor said he would donate more amounts in installments, depending on the progress of the work. Prabhas decided to adopt the forest in memory of his father, as per the official release. The forest area will be developed as an Urban Eco-Park. Prabhas, along with Environment Minister Allola Indra Karan Reddy and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Rajya Sabha MP Joginipally Santosh Kumar laid the foundation stone. They also observed the reserve forest from a temporary watch tower and also planted a few saplings in the region. Khazipally Reserve Forest is known for having quite a number of medicinal plants. ‘Thank Amit Shah’: Kangana Ranaut on getting Y-plus category security

<p>Amid the escalating war of words between the Maharashtra government and Kangana Ranaut, now the actor has been provided Y-plus category security by the Home Ministry. Kangana Ranaut had sparked a row with her 'Mumbai-PoK' remark while attacking the Mumbai police. <p>The Himachal Pradesh government has decided to provide security to Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut in the state and is also considering to extend it during her upcoming visit to Mumbai. Chief Minister Jairam Thakur informed about Kangana Ranaut's protection in the state. Thakur said, “Her sister telephoned me yesterday and talked to me. Her father too had written to the state police seeking the security. 4 days in lock-up for Rhea’s brother, Sushant’s house manager as NCB gets custody

<p>A Mumbai court sent Rhea Chakraborty's brother Showik, and Sushant Singh Rajput's house manager Samuel Miranda to custody of Narcotics Control Bureau till September 9, 2020. The duo were arrested on September 4 on drugs-related charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Alleged drug peddler Kaizan Ebrahim was sent to judicial custody till September 19. The allegations came to light during an investigation into actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death. The Central Bureau of Investigation is probing the circumstances under which the actor was found dead at his Mumbai house on June 14, 2020. His girlfriend Rhea is the main accused in the case. She has been accused of abetting Sushant's suicide and siphoning off his assets by the late actor's father.</p>

Sushant’s life insurance policy reports: Family lawyer rejects claims

<p>Vikas Singh, lawyer of the family of Sushant Singh Rajput addressed a media briefing regarding recent reports about the late actor's alleged life insurance policy. The lawyer said that it was being alleged in certain sections of the media that Sushant had a life insurance policy whose payout would be stopped if the cause of death was suicide. He claimed that all such reports were false as the late actor had no life insurance. He also threatened to sue news organisations in case 'defamatory canards' against the family continued. <p>A sequel to the 1991 cult film Sadak, the latest release Sadak 2 starring Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Jisshu SenGupta, Makrand Deshpande, Gulshan Grover comes across as a half-hearted attempt that lacks the charm and nostalgia of the '90s. Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, who returned to direction after 20 years, the film has a lot of potholes be it story, screenplay or even direction. The story is about Alia's Aarya and Aditya's Vishal going to Mount Kailash with Ravi Kishore played by Dutt as their taxi driver. While Aarya is on a mission to bust the racket of fake godmen, she puts her own life in danger and before she realises who's on her side and who's not, she finds a saviour and a guardian angel in Ravi. Next 2 hours 13 mins is about how this road trip turns out to be a revelation for both Aarya and Vishal and how Ravi gets the closure he's seeking after he has lost the love of his life, Pooja. Sadak 2 is a wasted opportunity where even the best of lineup in terms of actors and director couldn't save a sinking ship. However, one thing is sure that the raging nepotism debate has nothing to do with the film being good or bad.</p>

The actor arrived at Mumbai's DRDO guest house on Saturday for interrogation. Earlier on Friday, Rhea was grilled by the CBI for more than 10 hours in connection with Sushant Singh Rajput's death case. Rhea is accused of abetting Sushant's suicide. Sushant's death case was transferred to the central agency following which the CBI has questioned people related to the case. Rhea's brother Showmik Chakraborty was also questioned by the CBI. Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman dies of colon cancer at 43

<p>Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman died of colon cancer on Saturday. He was 43. The news was announced by his family in a statement. The actor had been battling cancer for four years. Boseman had been diagnosed with stage three colon cancer in 2016. He appeared as Marvel superhero Black Panther in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. Boseman also appeared in director Ryan Coogler's 2018 film, Black Panther. He followed it up with two more appearances as the character. He was featured in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Boseman's most recent film appearance was in director Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods which released on Netflix earlier this year. Born and raised in South Carolina's Anderson, Boseman got his first television role in 2003 in an episode of Third Watch. His last tweet came on August 12. The actor had congratulated Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris on her nomination.</p>
